HISTORY: It wasn't all that bad growing up, meaning that in the slightest, most positive way. Indigo was born into an Australian/Japanese background, having her mother hospitalized in Australia where the wealthy family chose to reside alongside the father's relatives, instead of Japan where her mother originated. Though she was born into the hardships of a strange family and marriage, she grew accustomed to this environment. Though she was completely unaware until she reached the age of five, when her parents found her the suitable age to start traveling alongside them to meet their heritage among the two countries. They tended to exchange between homes quite often, which set a toll on the child, but the parents had a stubborn refusal to notice what was going on in their beloved young of theirs' mind. By the age of seven, Indigo was put into all-round school in Japan, where they finally decided to stay for a couple years so that she learn the language and background of her mother's side. She had learned a talent with communicating with animals; her parents praised the young one for her ability, but not out of any spite being that it was because she had earned a power.
They were grateful to believe their daughter was a normal being rather than a mutant, but one day, that all changed as she was getting ready for school one morning. As Indigo was all bright and cheery for school, whilst having been over break she took classes with the animals by the nearest zoo, her talent persuading her to believe she had a future with them. Granted, she was only seven, she did not care about a job just yet, but her parents were sure to make her happy in giving her just about anything she wanted at the time. Just as she had begun to pack her bags and set out for the day to her school and several friends, she grabbed her homework which instantly set aflame along her hands. The child screamed and dropped the paper, to what then burned entirely upon the ground without spreading to the carpet. The father had been the only one whom had seen, though her mother ran around the corner and caught her daughter aside to ensure she was not burnt. Mr. Conrad did nothing to change Indigo from going to school that day, nor inform his wife what had happened. The girl didn't say a peep to her mother either, for she was too frightened by the mess she had made, tears in her eyes for she could not turn in her homework that day. Things like this seemed to occur quite often when the girl was happy, often causing things to melt in her hands by accident, and as time passed, her parents worried for the girl's safety. So before she could turn eight, Indigo was forced into private tutoring among her home.
She spent years like this, and eventually, when moving back to Australia as her neighbors declared rumors of the fire girl, the family came to the conclusion that her condition could not be helped. They almost despised the girl for her difference between normal and mutant, which grew stronger as she reached the age of a teen. When Indigo reached age of a young teen, a stage of rebelliousness ran over her, but slowly upon her, though not as slowly as her parents liked. Indigo soon went by Indie, which she tried to convince her parents to call her such, but refused, for they liked her original name more. Going by this, her new name, Indie started getting out of the house more to run with her rebelled teenaged pals among the outback. At this time, she conceal a great majority of her firey joy and hidden animal found talent in order to fit in to society. She grew to like kangaroos, and sometimes, when she allowed some of her talents to flow out, her friends would be amazed by how creatures would walk up to her and allow her to pet them. Her apparel began to change as well, to more of a boyish theme rather than her girly textures she once wore that her family had chosen at costly lengths. She'd come home late almost every night, lectured here and there for her choices and responsibilities, as well as the minor insult of her parents declaring her mutancy. How crude sometimes they could be, which tended to fuel the fire within her, casting giant flames in her cyan eyes that her parents would see, and be silenced by through fear as to what was happening to the little girl they once knew.
When she earned her first boyfriend around fourteen, Indie and him often spent time together away from both their homes. They had known each other since she had moved back to Australia, and found each other to be quite nice in one another's company. Indie was grateful for him, but soon found that she didn't like him like most girls would. He was handsome, strong even, and had all the same qualities as her - but it didn't fit quite right with her. Even then, she extended their relationship with each other in dismissing her truer feelings for him, she didn't want to scare him off for what she may or may not know in herself, and hated to have him be a guinea pig for her, but with him, she knew she could tell him almost anything. One evening, when the two were along together, they shared several minor kisses until Indie finally pulled away in a depressed manor. He had asked her what was wrong, soothing her with gentle rubs among her shoulders and gentle kisses against her cheek and neck, but it was no use. Tears had flown down her cheeks, only making him more concerned for her bell-being. It was then did she finally whisper how she could finally disappear, the stress of her home and all that which she surrounded herself with becoming a lot harder to coupe with. As hard as the boy tried to comfort her, he was stopped as her appearance grew hazy, as if he were looking at the objects on her other side, and only a faint image of herself growing invisible.
He panicked, causing her to look up with fear in her eyes before looking at her hands, to what had vanished. She screamed and cried for him to not leave, for he called her a freak and ran for his life at the sight he had seen of his girlfriend slowly disappearing before his own eyes. Indie did not return home until she knew her body was visible to the human eye. From then until the right age, she stayed mostly in her room unless asked to come to tutoring. It wasn't until long did her parents refuse to keep raising her, and send her off to America to learn to survive on her own. They didn't want or need a mutant in their home, instead providing her wit tons of money to attend a school of her choice, and an apartment somewhere where she liked to grow alone in. She tried enhancing her powers, but found no use, finding there to be an only possible chance at attending an academy she heard over the news. An academy that fit to her kind in society, though not as nicely as society would want of course, but it fit for her, and she needed it. With her parents money, she traveled to New York to attend the school for her Junior year.
